Is the Klite codec pack still relevant? I used to use it a long time ago when certain video file types wouldn't play without it, but I haven't had it installed for like 5 years or so and the default install of VLC seems to play everything I throw at it without any additional codec packs.

Here are some free MS Windows enhancements.

WhizMouse - makes the mouse wheel scroll the area where the mouse is pointing instead of where the keyboard focus is (fixes one of Microsoft's big design failures)

VistaSwitcher - replacement for alt-tab. Very nice to use. Despite the name, it works on everything from Windows XP to Windows 7.

Process Explorer - replacement for task manager. So much better than the built-in task manager that Microsoft bought the whole company that made it. Highly recommended.
