Do you regret paying so much
Well, I was among the first in Romania who got Ninja Gaiden 3 on PS3 and that came at a hefty premium back then. Was it worth it? Probably not. But, even though it didn't live up to the hype, I enjoyed it. I still remember the Regent of the Mask battle and its epic soundtrack A Masked Curse.
The escape scene after the battle also had a memorable soundtrack Escape.
Considering I also had like a couple hundred other PS3 games in physical format in my collection, most of them being Collector's Editions I spent quite a bit back in the day.
Suffice it to say I stopped paying premium long ago since you don't have to do it in order to enjoy gaming and waiting usually provides you with a better experience and a more refined product at a fraction of the price and that should be a good rule of thumb when gaming, regardless of the platform.

I've not had access to a console back then, otherwise, I'd probably play it too. Did you play the previous ones too?
Would you consider NINJA GAIDEN: Master Collection?

I totally agree with this statement. It's better to wait for sometimes if you can. Purchasing a game that just came out nowadays is a sure sentence to a long and painful death because games are not 100% finished nowadays. AAA and AA companies don't dare to set their game into the phase of Early Access and they end up screwing everybody over because of this kind of expectations we have for a finished game.
Btw, which side of Romania are you from?

I played both Sigma versions on PS3 and highly enjoyed them. That was actually why I went the extra mile to get the third iteration. I might get the collection on PC as well, but I'm in no hurry since I still have my PS3 and all 3 games in physical format. Truth be told, the NINJA GAIDEN: Master Collection is worth its asking price but, since I already own the originals, I don't see any point in not waiting for a sale to own it on PC as well. As for the last question: Bucharest.

If you take in all the money spent on all expansions + gametime i would say World of Warcraft.
League of legends in terms of just skins
In terms of a 1 time purchase it would have been Call of Duty Black ops 2 bundle row edition.

I think he meant Rock Band on consoles with the plastic guitar and stuff. Like Guitar Hero. Those bundles were quite expensive.

Red Dead Redemption 2 - $40 on Steam and $50 for Witcher 3 GOTY Edition on PS4 disc (sold the game back for $30 through ebay) and rebought the game on Steam at 80% off and sold by PS4 along with all games.
I never buy games at full price anymore. Got over 850 games, most of which are through bundles and deep discounts like 75-90% off. The only case was Witcher 3 (I got additional $10 credit card discount). $20 is the maximum I pay for big budget AAA games from major publishers, for AAs and indies $5-8 and for $2 or less for bundle material.
I'd rather have 6-8 good AAA games post 2 years of launch for $10 each instead of a single game for $60-100. Also never pre-ordered any game (not even cheap indie titles).

I can understand why. It's hard to keep up and finish all your games.

You don't wanna end up regretting or being dissapointed of the issues? I normally don't either, but sometimes I like to support game developers that I feel that they are trying to make a good game. E.g. Baldur's Gate 3 or Mount & Blade II: Bannerlords.

Baldurs Gate 3 and Bannerlords seem to be very good games from what I heard from my friends. Will wait a couple of years for Baldurs Gate 3, it's in early access if I'm not wrong. I want to support the devs too but I end up buying games on sale anyways because I simply feel more comfortable buying them at a bargain price.
With all media following subscription model today this is the best possible way for me (and also affordable!).

I can't speak about Baldurs Gate 3 as only my wife played it, but I can vouch for Bannerlords. I had a tremendous amount of fun and the replay value is crazy good.

Makes total sense to me and I pretty much do the same thing so I can save my budget. I rarely buy on release nowadays unless I intend to play it and I mess up not doing so. So I best wait until I decide to play it right away, so a sale is more favorable for me.

The most I've paid for a game is 32€. That was for Days Gone. No regrets though. Loved the game, even if the beginning was questionable. There's 2 other games I bought at 30€ and those were Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Grand Theft Auto V. Both were also amazing games.

+1 for trying it on pc. I got a constant 70+ fps with my gtx 1060 6gb at 1080p with much, much higher settings than ps4, which is incredible considering how the game looks and it makes for a much better experience on a 144hz freesync display than just regular 60fps (or 30fps in the case of ps4). It's a really great game. I loved every second of it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'd be hard pressed to remember exactly, but it was a mix of high and medium. I remember it was just a touch lower than the digital foundry recommended settings, since I wanted to achieve the extra fps. I took a handful of screenshots if you want to see what it looked like. The game also has a resolution scale slider. At 90%, I'd get a constant 80+ fps. But I preferred to play at native 1080p instead.

$280 for the Diablo 3 Collector's Edition. Thankfully the Reaper of Souls CE was a heckuva lot cheaper! 😛

I've never spent anything crazy on in-game items (my TF2 backpack history is a liar) but I did once buy a game with a really expensive price at launch. It was a mech game released by Capcom back in 2002 and it came with a pretty serious controller just for controlling your mech, and a serious $200 USD price tag which would equal about $319 in 2022 dollars. It was called Steel Battalion and.....

.... okay I'm lying I never owned it but it's a pretty interesting story and a noteworthy part of video game history...
here's a little backstory on the release...

Bro, this controller is badass, but it's a shame it can't be used for anything else, or maybe it can if you can keymap the game.

Most I payed for a game was $120 for the pre purchase of Ghost Recon with all the bonuses. Didn’t even play it that much.
My biggest regret for an expensive game would be Defiance. I paid $100 for the pre-order and that game was not only a complete failure in my opinion, but went Free to Play which really tick everyone off.
Comment has been collapsed.
I can’t even remember when it went free to play before it was removed. Pretty sure you can’t even play it anymore. So for people like me who paid for it, a paperweight would be a better value.

Wow, I remember Defiance. It was a good game with great potential. I played a bit after it went free (I didn't even know it was paid before). I have no idea about the history of it or how it failed so hard.

At the time I bought the sims 2 with its expansions and accessories (second hand) so it was not so expensive. You got a good price for the sims 4 if you have all the expansions (is it worth it? I bought the base game and cats and dogs for 15 USD but I didn't get caught)
The videogame in which I have spent the most and I can not stop is SMITE (since 2012) (2800 hours) I am sure it has been more than $1000 USD

I feel bad about it but at the same time I don't feel so bad because I do play it a lot.
And I've bought AAA games that I've only played for 1 or 2 hours, or I've bought games from Humble Bundle that I haven't even opened

$15 is not too bad considering that you can do a lot in the sims with that DLC. There's infinite replay value, you just have to be creative.

That seems a lot, but considering that you've played for 10 years, is not too bad.
Put it in this perspective: Buy 20 AAA games worth $50 each and you've spent $1000.
And I've bought AAA games that I've only played for 1 or 2 hours, or I've bought games from Humble Bundle that I haven't even opened
You're not the only one my friend. I've not played 95% of the games won there as of yet. My backlog is too big.

I spent the most money on "The Forgotten City" mostly due to an exclusive discount on Steam.
I haven't played much of it and it did suffer from a crash when I first played it, but it still very promising, with in intriguing story and excellend voice acting, with a beautiful scenery.

I recently spent about $230 on a Final Girl kickstarter :D But that's not my most expensive spend on one particular board game. Arkham Horror The Card Game takes that title. I think I've spent about $1500 on it :D with all the expansions and storage solutions etc. So, yeah ... my video game purchases don't come even close to this ...
I think the most I've spent on a video game was buying it when it just came out - Vampyr comes to mind as an example (I think it was $50 on release). :)

I really liked Vampyr. The world and the combat were perfect for my taste :)
Final Girl is a solo board game, so it has a lot of components that only one person gets to enjoy ... and that's why it's a bit more expensive :D I think I'm going to be receiving it by the end of the year.
And yeah, the Arkham Horror collection grew with time, definitely don't have $1500 to just spend on a board game off the bat :D

Can you tell me more about what type of game it is and why did you choose to support the project? I could go and google it, but would like to hear your personal thoughts and impression.

It wouldn't surprise me, I mean, there could still be some rich fellas around here and aside from that, we spent thousands of dollars on PC every now and then.

I haven't updated my PC in about 4-5 years, so yeah ... I guess if I weren't buying board games ... :D
As for Final Girl, I love horror games and movies, so it was an easy back for me. It's, as I mentioned, a solo board game, and it fits thematically since you're the "FINAL GIRL" - a genre trope where the female main protagonist both survives the killer and/or kills him. So, the board game reflects that you go around and try to save people and get them to safety before the killer gets to them. When you save enough people and scavenge enough for weapons and traps you can try to go for the killer. The game ends when either of you dies, so there's always a final showdown. And I forgot to mention that the more people the killer kills, the stronger he gets and yeah ... it's supposedly a tough game. Can't wait to try it. :)

Escape From Tarkov - EOD edition
I am horrible at shooters, I am horrible at Tarkov, yet this is a game I always come back to once in a while after a new wipe.
Was totally worth my money and cannot wait to see the final product. This game is kinda special.

I've heard that it's hella challenging. I am not sure I know much about the game as all I know is that there's some amazing gun play mechanics that really makes this game unique. I wish it was on Steam, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I don't like when there are isolated platforms or launchers like that.
But I do see myself playing this game in the future.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah,
it combines everything I like about stealth games, action games and strategy games. And if you are unskilled like me, it is more like playing a horror game. The last time I had this much adrenaline pumped out while playing video games was Amnesia: Dark Descent ^^
It has natural VOIP, you can design most guns the way you like, full loot with insurances.
I expect to see it at steam at some point in the far future. If you can wait until then, you will have an amazing experience, as the game is in (an already very fleshed out) beta, still.
Comment has been collapsed.
Once the game is finished (most likely not gonna happen before end of 23 or early 24) BSG wants to bring it to steam, too. Right now it delivers about a few hundred hours of content, as the maps are huge and there is a lot of variety. Just wait it out and you will get a fantastic and very unique experience

Max I have played was 100$: once for the Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 Special Edition (it included the 2 games, a metalic case, a pin and a plushie) and the second time for Uncharted 3 Special Edition + the official game guide (don't regret purchasing the guide, the handcover is beautiful).

rdr2 deluxe on steam release, then 1 week after it went on sale and i didnt even have time to play before that, think i paid 75 euros (after playing it that was still worth the money but you know theres always a little crying eye when thinking about it), otherwise csgo which i have spend like 2k euros on (played for 10.000hours tho), in terms of real-life item its prob my car which was around 3,5k euros (its my first car so nothing crazy) :D
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, RDR2 is a game I own directly on Rockstar Launcher and I badly want it on Steam for no apparent reason but to know it's there. I'm still not willing to pay £20 on it since I already own it. I would buy it if it dropped to 75% or lower on Steam, which I doubt it would happen as of now. This game came out a few years back, but still holds up.
I don't find it as a surprise for a multiplayer game to spend a lot more money than an single player really. That amount of time played covers the costs. I'd divide the 10,000 Hours in £2,000 and get 5X the amount worth my time and still find it worth it.
What car did you own?

I've played ME1 about 4 times, ME2 about 2 times and ME3 once. One of my all time favorite game. I bought the LE on a 50% because I need to save myself for other games, but I do intend to revisit the franchise and finish as well Andromeda, who I left in the air mid way, not because it was bad, but because I had an issue with my PC. When I came back, lost all my progression, so I moved on to another game.

I know I've spent more on games before, but the most memorable one for me is pre-ordering Portal 2. It was the first time I ever pre-ordered a game. I mowed my parents' yards so that I could earn the money for it, and was literally crying from excitement when it finally released and I could play it. People who remember the early-release ARG that came with it say that event was a waste because it only released a few hours earlier, but those hours meant I could play it Monday evening instead of Wednesday morning (due to university schedule).
Again, I'm sure I've spent more on games before, but this was the most notable big-purchase that I can remember at this time. ^^;

Any physical Nintendo game, bur specially Pokemon Snap, that I bought pre release. They are ridiculously expensive in my country, like a third of the minimum wage. Do I feel kinda stupid? Yeah, but I also miss having money and enthusiasm enough to hype up a game like that.
I also almost bought a physical copy of the Atelier Arland trilogy. That piece of plastic was more than double the price of any Nintendo game here, about 800BRL. Luckily I came to my senses and realized I almost spent the equivalent of a month's rent money in a stupid game with no added features, no collector's edition bonuses, nothing.

Nintendo charges the most out of all the companies and lately, with some of the game releases, like Story of Season and Rune Factory 5, I don't find the justification for a full price when the games run poorly on the Switch.

Well, that's because the games are portable, but don't you worry... Steam Deck is going to take its place. You'll be able to afford your future games if they ever come to Steam.

I've learned to not hype for games because when they are over-hyped it kills my expectation. I take to note only look for what I can expect realistically.
I personally never hyped for Elden Ring for instance, but overall it lived to the hype.

That's awesome, you must be a fan of the series. I loved the whole thing, but I didn't watch the last season and when I returned to it I couldn't connect anymore the same with the characters. I hate watching a series that interrupts at a season or episode and returning to it makes you disconnect with the series.

Per non-online title that would be 100 PLN (around 25 EUR at the time, 3 or 4 years ago), for PS3 rare game. Not sure which title, but it would be something like Ni No Kuni: The Wrath of The White Witch and Silent Hill: Downpour or some kind of collection release.
Still not played all of games, but Ni No Kuni was great (almost 80 hours).
As online game, I think I have spend over 1600 PLN (400 EUR) in span of 3 years I played LoL. Not worth it until I sell account (which I cannot, by ToS)

Hi and welcome back to another random question.
Today's topic is quite simple: What was the most expensive purchase you've ever made? This could be a collection you've bought at a really pricy time because you couldn't contain yourself not to buy it or you could mention a game you've bought that maybe is no longer on Steam and had to buy it on a key-shop or something.
My personal one is The Sims 4 with all it's expansions. I've bought pretty much every major update until Cottage Living (which I didn't even play yet - lol).
Anyway, what was yours?
The price for ALL the expansions is £515.08, without the game, that costs £35. I didn't pay that much, but I've paid for sure £150. 😨
Update: I came to the realization that I've spent a lot more in League of Legends, which is no surprise. I have played that game for more than 4 seasons, that's about 4 years, every single day, if I could. Based on my calculations I've spent £231.55. 😳😅
