Here we go, I'll start.

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (2010) - This movie is a joke. At first it's interesting, then it's boring and then it's just funny/pathetic. And they put it in a "horror" genre. Words are not sufficient. Nosferatu is turning in his grave. 3/10

Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)

American sports comedy film. It's about a widowed alcoholic and ex-golfer who returns to professional golf to help pay for his daughter's overseas ballet school. Okay, first to get that out of the way, the cast is full of recognizable faces (Adam Sandler, Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Benny Safdie, Bad Bunny, Ben Stiller, Jackie Sandler, Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Dennis Dugan, Kevin Nealon, Haley Joel Osment, Lavell Crawford, Eminem, Steve Buscemi, Kym Whitley, Eric André, Margaret Qualley, Post Malone, Kid Cudi, Travis Kelce, Nick Swardson, Jon Lovitz, Rob Schneider, Becky Lynch, Boban Marjanović, Sean Evans, Andrew Santino, Bobby Lee and Guy Fieri, sports casters like Verne Lundquist, Dan Patrick, Stephen A. Smith, Chris Berman and Jim Gray, and actual professional golfers like John Daly, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Keegan Bradley, Fred Couples, Nick Faldo, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Sergio García, Charley Hull, Hunter Mahan, Collin Morikawa, Jack Nicklaus, Corey Pavin, Xander Schauffele, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Lee Trevino, Bubba Watson, and Will Zalatoris). Seems like Adam Sandler really got everyone for this movie. The story is fun, but the movie definitely leans heavily into nostalgia. We even get a graveyard scene that pays tribute to the actors from the original movie who have passed away, which was a nice touch. And of course we get some characters' child as their stand-in for the roles that are a bit bigger. Eminem plays the son of the "Jackass" heckler guy, Lavell Crawford plays Chubbs Peterson's son who gives advice to Happy Gilmore and Boban Marjanović plays the son of Richard Kiel's character. I feel like it's obvious Adam Sandler would've asked the actual actors to reprise their roles if they were still alive, but because they're not, we're getting the next best thing. Overall the movie is enjoyable and just a good 2 hours of entertainment to shut your brain off to. There's really nothing it does bad or wrong. It's just not as good as the original. Still, can recommend.

Heavier Trip (2024)

Finnish comedy film. It's about a Finnish extreme metal band who are incarcerated in a Norwegian prison so when they're offered a slot at Wacken and 50000€ payment they have to decline at first but soon they find out that the guitarist's father had a heart attack when he finds out that he needs 30000€ to save his slaughterhouse so they break out and do everything they can to still go play at Wacken. This is a lot of fun but probably only if you're a metalhead. Can't say anything about the actors involved apart from the fact that they acted well. What's also funny is that Babymetal are in this and the trve kvlt corpsepaint wearing guy in the band actually kinda thinks they're awesome (but he'd never admit that). This movie is actually the sequel to Heavy Trip (2018) which was also a lot of fun so if by any chance you've seen and enjoyed that one I can also recommend this one.

I barely watch movies but I randomly watched a handful over the past month: No Country for Old Men, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Tropic Thunder, Full Metal Jacket, Rain Man, and Good Burger. Good Burger held up surprisingly well considering it was made for kids 28 years ago. I was sure the others would be good and I was not disappointed. Not sure if I saw Good Burger back in the day, but the others I am sure I never saw before. Shouts out to YouTube for making them available for free, plus ad-free because I've got YT Premium.

Joy (2024)

British biographical drama film. It's about the three scientists who worked on developing in vitro fertilisation while facing opposition from the church, state, media, and medical establishment. Very interesting story, based on true events, shining a spotlight on nurse and embryologist Jean Purdy, physiologist Dr Robert Edwards and obstetrician and gynaecologist Patrick Steptoe but mostly focused on Jean Purdy whose role in the development of IVF was ignored for 30 years. Very good cast (Thomasin McKenzie, James Norton and Bill Nighy as those three scientists, with others like Louisa Harland (Derry Girls), Ruth Madeley (Doctor Who), Pip Torrens (Preacher) and Douggie McMeekin (The Decameron) in supporting roles). Overall I quite enjoyed this, so I can recommend it.

The Naked Gun (2025)

American action comedy film. It's about Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. who must succeed in his father’s footsteps to prevent the closure of Police Squad. Just came home from the cinema (again) after watching this with my dad. But in German this time. A lot of the jokes still work or have a replacement written that's also funny but some just don't hit like they do in the original version. Still, we both had a great time so I can recommend it (again).

Brick (2025)

German mystery sci-fi thriller film. It's about a couple whose apartment building is suddenly surrounded by a mysterious brick wall so they must work with their neighbors to find a way out. Watched this yesterday. I thought it was pretty good for what it was but it still has some weak points here and there. Overall I think I can recommend it, though.

The Green Butchers (2003)

Danish black comedy film. It's about two butchers who start their own shop to get away from their arrogant boss but when an electrician accidentally dies in the freezer they sell him as chicken and business starts booming. I think I'm really getting into Danish cinema. Every Danish movie I've seen just has that specific something that I seem to enjoy. Maybe it's the fact that as a German I can kinda almost understand a word or two in every sentence. Maybe I just like the vibe of the Danish movies I've seen. Because this one (starring (like the last few I've seen btw) Mads Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Nicolas Bro and more) is just surprisingly really good. I watched it with not really any expectations at all and it's just so funny and sweet and well-acted and everything. I can very much recommend it.

Black and Blue (2019)

American action thriller film. It's about a rookie police officer who goes on the run after she witnesses her colleagues commit a murder. Very good cast (Naomie Harris, Frank Grillo, Tyrese Gibson, Mike Colter and more) in a movie that might not be that original (considering it's yet another dirty cop story) but it's entertaining enough so I can recommend it.

Bicycle Thieves/Ladri di biciclette (1948)

Italian neorealist drama film. It's about a poor father searching for his stolen bicycle in post-World War II Rome, without which he will lose the job which was to be the salvation of his young family. This movie is basically just about a guy searching for his bike for 90 minutes but it's so well made. The two main characters (father and son) were played by Lamberto Maggiorani (who was a factory worker at the time he was cast in this film) and Enzo Staiola (who was a 9 year old boy) so it's safe to say neither of them had all that much acting experience. Despite that they were great in this and both of them being non-actors definitely helped with the authenticity of their performances. The movie itself is of course very Italian. In fact it's one of the quintessential Italian movies of all time. So yeah, overall I thought this was great and I can definitely recommend it.

Nightcrawler (2014)

On my first watch few years ago I probably thought "crazy movie about total psycho". After a rewatch, well, basically the same, but now I know Lou Bloom is a personification of LinkedIn. I couldn't stop laughing at scene where he asks for job. And few more chuckles thorough the movie. Dialogues are insane. Jake Gyllenhaal was wicked. Riz Ahmed did well too.
I recommend the film and this Twitter profile as supplement.

Jaws (1975)

American thriller film. It's about a police chief who, with the help of a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter, hunts a man-eating great white shark that attacks beachgoers at a New England summer resort town. Rewatched this at the cinema yesterday and what can I say? It's a masterpiece. The quintessential summer blockbuster. I've obviously seen it before but seeing it on the big screen is a whole different thing. So much fun. Highly recommended!

Jaws 2 (1978)

American horror thriller film. It's about a police chief suspecting that another great white shark is terrorizing his seaside resort community, following a series of incidents and disappearances, and his suspicions are eventually proven true. Because I've rewatched the original yesterday I thought now's the best time to finally watch those sequels, so I pushed back the movies I was already planning on watching and decided to just watch all of the Jaws sequels in the coming days. And this one was not as bad as I expected but obviously it comes nowhere close to the original. The special effects were very good, as was the score, and some of the acting was good too, but overall I feel like it just tried to do what the first one did. Gotta get some originality even into sequels. So while I'm glad I've watched this I can't really recommend it.

Weapons (2025)

American mystery horror film. It's about a mysterious case of seventeen children from the same classroom who mysteriously run out of their homes towards an unknown target in the middle of the night, all going missing with no reason why. Watched this at the cinema yesterday. I don't want to spoil anything because it's not even out yet everywhere, but I thought it was really good. Good mix between jumpscares and a very scary atmosphere and it even has some funny parts, albeit in an absurd, dark humour kinda way. Good cast (Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, Amy Madigan and more). Overall I thought it was really good but like with any horror movie, people's tastes are different and I did see a few things that I thought were good that other people might think are not. But yeah, I can recommend it. Definitely one to watch on the big screen.

Jaws 3-D (1983)

American horror film. It's about a police chief's children who go to SeaWorld but as the park prepares for opening, a young great white shark infiltrates it from the sea, seemingly attacking and killing the park's employees but once that shark is captured, it becomes apparent that a second, much larger shark also entered the park and was the real culprit. So first of all, this isn't a good movie. Some terrible effects, a story that's not very good either. But... at least it's decently original and does have some good scenes, like a shot from inside the shark where you're next to a guy who's just being eaten. So overall I'd say all that makes it very much "so bad it's good" and in a campy way at least more entertaining than the previous one. And the cast is good, too. Dennis Quaid (who was, according to some interviews, on coke the whole time he's on screen), Bess Armstrong, Lea Thompson, Louis Gossett Jr. and more. Can recommend.

Jaws: The Revenge (1987)

American horror film. It's about the police chief's widow who believes that a great white shark is seeking revenge on her family when it follows her to the Bahamas. This movie is just not very good. It's production was rushed which might explain the poor quality. And despite getting some big names for this (Michael Caine, Melvin van Peebles, Mario van Peebles, Judith Barsi) and getting Lorraine Gary out of retirement to play Ellen Brody again, overall this just didn't really work. They even retconned the previous movie, the only one of these sequels that was fun to watch (even though definitely in a "so bad it's good" kinda way, as I mentioned in the review I wrote for that one), and made this a direct sequel to the second one. The best thing to come out of this was probably the movie's tagline. "This time, it's personal." Well, personally, I can't recommend this movie.

Jackpot! (2024)

American dystopian action comedy film. It's about a former child actor who wins a $3.6 billion lottery and must fend off people trying to kill her in a near-future California. The action sequences are boring (but then again, I'm not a big fan of action movies, so take my word with a grain of salt; action fans might enjoy them), the jokes sometimes don't land, the acting isn't all that good and the story is paper thin. The best thing about this movie might be the bloopers shown throughout the end credits. But... if you want to watch something stupid where you can turn off your brain, this is actually decent. So overall I think I can recommend it. Just don't expect this to be something it isn't.

Dear God (1996)

American comedy film. It's about a con artist turned postal worker who discovers letters addressed to God and decides to answer them, transforming lives in the process. This is a light, fun movie, perfect for a Sunday. Good cast (Greg Kinnear, Laurie Metcalf, Hector Elizondo, Tim Conway, Mel Novak, Roscoe Lee Browne, Donal Logue, Rue McClanahan, Jack Klugman, Nancy Marchand, Toby Huss, Jim Meskimen, Coolio and more). Overall this might not be all that great of a movie but it's entertaining enough. Can recommend.

Late Afternoon (2017)

Irish animated short film. It's about an elderly woman coping with dementia as she relives her memories of the past. The main character is voiced by the great Fionnula Flanagan. Very sweet little short film. Can recommend.

I've been doing my own Oscars Death Race (where you watch everything that's nominated) since 2019, since the 91st Academy Awards. A few years later (2022, 94th Academy Awards) I've found out that there's a subreddit for that exact thing which I joined when there was again one short film that I couldn't find on my own. I was helped there but I didn't have that help in the previous years. Sometimes I managed to find everything by myself, but sometimes I just didn't in time. So there's handful of previous Oscar nominees from years I almost completed that I still haven't seen. Of course now there's no real incentive to watch them now but I'm still going to from time to time. Slowly working down that pile. So now that Late Afternoon (2017) (nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the 91st Academy Awards in 2019) is crossed off that list there are 12 movies remaining. Lots of foreign movies, short films and documentaries.

Quicksilver (1986)

American drama film. It's about a young stock trader who loses all of his company's and family's savings on a risky trade, so he quits his job and becomes a bicycle messenger. This is a very 80s movie. Very good cast (Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishburne, Jami Gertz, Louie Anderson, David Harris) and music by Roger Daltrey (The Who), Tony Banks (Genesis), Ray Parker Jr., Peter Frampton and more. This movie doesn't have the deepest or most original story and Kevin Bacon once called it the absolute lowest point of his career, but I definitely enjoyed it and can recommend it.

American comedy drama film. It's about a widower who falls in love with a woman in a bookshop but the next day he finds out she's his brother's new girlfriend. Very good cast (Steve Carell, Juliette Binoche, Dane Cook, Emily Blunt, Dianne Wiest, Alison Pill, John Mahoney and more). The story is very enjoyable. Overall there's not much to write about this but I liked this movie, so I can recommend it.

A Shock To The System (1990)

American black comedy crime thriller film. It's about a frustrated advertising executive who turns to murder to climb the corporate ladder and reclaim control of his life after being passed over for a promotion. Very good cast (Michael Caine, Elizabeth McGovern, Peter Riegert, Swoosie Kurtz and more) in a very entertaining movie that I'm surprised is not more well-known. I thought it was very good and I can definitely recommend it.

Self Reliance (2023)

American comedy thriller film. It's about a man who is given the opportunity to participate in a life or death reality game show where he just has to stay alive for 30 days to win one million dollars but he's being hunted by hunters who want to kill him. This is fun. Entertaining premise with Very good cast (Jake Johnson (who also wrote and directed this), Anna Kendrick, Biff Wiff, Andy Samberg (playing Andy Samberg), Eduardo Franco, Wayne Brady, Boban Marjanović, Christopher Lloyd and more). Overall I enjoyed this and I also enjoyed that for once there was no stupid twist at the end like the 1 million being in Danish Kroner or "whoops, you don't actually get the money" or something like that. I can recommend it.
