Here we go, I'll start.

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (2010) - This movie is a joke. At first it's interesting, then it's boring and then it's just funny/pathetic. And they put it in a "horror" genre. Words are not sufficient. Nosferatu is turning in his grave. 3/10

Kumiko, The Treasure Hunter (2014)

American drama film. It's about a Japanese woman who travels to Fargo, North Dakota because she's convinced that she can find the treasure there that Steve Buscemi's character buried there in the movie Fargo (1996). This is fascinating for multiple reasons. For one it's based on an urban legend surrounding an actual Japanese woman who travelled to the US (specifically Minneapolis, Minnesota, then to Bismarck, North Dakota, then to Fargo, North Dakota and finally to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where she died, apparently by suicide) but through a misunderstanding by one of the police officers with whom she had been speaking the story was then misreported by the media, leading to the urban legend that she had come to the United States to search for the money in the film. And for one because a lot of this movie is in Japanese and because the woman this is about spoke barely any English it's a fascinating look at someone trying to make herself understood in a language she barely knew. Overall this is surreal and haunting but also beautiful really powerful. Definitely quite unique and a great character study, because Rinko Kikuchi (who played our main character; probably best known outside of Japan from her work in Pacific Rim (2013)) did a fanastic job playing this woman. I can highly recommend this movie (and it might make for a great double-feature with Fargo (1996) itself.

The Last Remake of Beau Geste (1977)

British historical comedy film. It's about a man and his twin brother in a foreign legion, facing a cruel sergeant, a harsh desert, and a sneaky stepmother trying to steal their family fortune. Rewatched this yesterday and it's still a ton of fun. Definitely one of the more underrated movies in the slapstick/parody genre. Lots of great sight gags and even some very creative editing to get the characters from previous adaptations of the novel this is based on/this is parodying into this movie. A great cast (Marty Feldman (who also co-wrote and directed this), Michael York, Ann-Margret, Peter Ustinov, James Earl Jones, Trevor Howard, Terry-Thomas, Henry Gibson, Roy Kinnear, Spike Milligan, Avery Schreiber, Hugh Griffith, Ted Cassidy, Burt Kwouk and more). I genuinely think this should be way more well known among its peers. And I still have yet to watch all the other (serious) adaptations of the 1924 adventure novel Beau Geste. But even without having read that or having watched the other movies this one is really good and I can highly recommend it.

The Invisible Thief (1909)

French fantasy crime short film. It's about a man who buys a novel about invisibility and when he finds the recipe for an invisibility potion in it, and once invisible he decides to start stealing stuff. Directed by the great, but often underappreciated Segundo de Chomón, this has some great effects for the time, with both double exposure photography and stop motion coming into play here. The plot might sound a bit thin to the modern eye but this goes beyond the mere experimentation that other movies of the time did with special effects and gave it a short, but solid story. And of course the novel (The Invisible Man by G.H. Wells) is a reference to The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells but that shouldn't come to a big surprise to anyone. Overall I can recommend this one.

Billy Budd (1962)

British historical drama-adventure film. It's about a kind-hearted sailor who is made to join an English vessel at war so he soon finds himself caught between devotion to his crewmates and obedience to their hated, cruel master-at-arms. This is very good (Peter Ustinov, Terence Stamp, Robert Ryan, Melvyn Douglas, David McCallum and more). Overall I can say that I enjoyed it and I can very much recommend it.

Well, as someone might've guessed from this movie, it's the start of my Terence Stamp week after he sadly passed away recently. What a great actor, brilliant in everything I've seen him in. This was his debut and he already could hold a candle to giants like Peter Ustinov and Melvyn Douglas.

The Hit (1984)

British road crime film. It's about a guy who rats on his old mobster friends in exchange for personal immunity and ten years later two hit men kidnap him and drive him to Paris for his planned execution, but they encounter many mishaps along the way. Very good cast (John Hurt, Terence Stamp, Laura del Sol, Tim Roth (in his film debut), Jim Broadbent and more) who deliver great performances (especially Terence Stamp). This is very entertaining, beautifully shot and all around just really good. Highly recommended.

28 Years Later (2025)... I really enjoyed the first two, but this was a steaming pile of horse shit and the ending was a flaming big turd to top it all off.

Link (1986)

British horror film. It's about a female zoology student who is invited to a remote seaside mansion to assist a primatology professor with his experiments, but dangerous events start to occur involving a super-intelligent chimpanzee. Good cast (Elisabeth Shue, Terence Stamp and a few other human actors but especially Locke the Orangutan, Jed the Chimpanzee and Carrie the Chimpanzee) who delivered very good performances (the apes even moreso than the humans). Overall this might not be all that great but I still enjoyed it. And it's nice to see Terence Stamp with a bit of a crazy scientist thing going on. Can recommend.

My Boss's Daughter (2003)

American romantic slapstick comedy film. It's about a man housesitting for his boss and when people come over to the place who shouldn't be there all hell breaks loose. This isn't all that good (it's more stupid funny than haha funny) and some of the actors weren't very good (not gonna name names) while some of the others (mainly Terence Stamp) were very good as always. A lot of recognizable faces in the cast (Ashton Kutcher, Tara Reid, Terence Stamp, Molly Shannon, Jeffrey Tambor, Michael Madsen, Carmen Electra, Andy Richter, David Koechner, Kenan Thompson, Ever Carradine, Patrick Cranshaw, Tyler Labine, Dave Foley and more). Overall not much should speak for this movie, but somehow, when it was over I thought to myself "yeah, I enjoyed that". So take that as you will. I can recommend it.

Alien Nation (1988)

American science fiction action film. It's about the assimilation of an alien race settling in Los Angeles, much to the initial dismay of the local population, and a veteran police investigator and the first extraterrestrial detective attempting to solve a homicide together. This is obviously about racism and discrimination, but still subtle enough that some people might not get it. Very good cast (James Caan, Mandy Patinkin, Peter Jason, Terence Stamp and more). The only thing that was a bit lackluster in my opinion was the design of those aliens. But then again, they couldn't look all that different to humans. Overall I enjoyed this. If you're looking for a sci-fi buddy cop movie I can definitely recommend this one.

The Collector (1965)

British-American psychological horror film. It's about a young Englishman who stalks a beautiful art student before abducting and holding her captive in the basement of his rural farmhouse. Both main characters (played by Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar) are played very well and apart from those two we don't really get any other characters apart from a few scenes, which are barely worth mentioning in this 2 hour movie. But yeah, those two play off each other really well. This movie might make for a good double-feature with Peeping Tom (1960). Overall I can highly recommend it.

Bowfinger (1999)

American satirical comedy film. It's about a down-and-out filmmaker in Hollywood attempting to make a film on a small budget with a star who does not know that he is in the movie. Rewatched this yesterday and it's still very funny and good. The cast is very good, too. Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy (in two roles that couldn't be more different), Heather Graham, Christine Baranski, Robert Downey Jr., Terence Stamp, John Cho, Phill Lewis and more. Overall I can very much recommend it.

Crooked House (2017)

British-American crime drama mystery film. It's about a spy-turned-private-detective who is lured by his former lover to catch her grandfather's murderer before Scotland Yard exposes dark family secrets. This is based on an Agatha Christie novel I wasn't familiar with before (unlike the Hercule Poirot ones) so I was able to go into this one completely blind. The cast is great (Glenn Close, Max Irons, Gillian Anderson, Christina Hendricks, Terence Stamp, Julian Sands, Amanda Abbington, Christian McKay, Roger Ashton-Griffiths and more). I think it was very good but could've been even better. Can recommend.

So with this one my Terence Stamp week is complete. I've already seen his last and second to last movie (Last Night in Soho (2021) and Murder Mystery (2019)), so to finish the week I just picked one semi-recent that I hadn't seen yet. And while it wasn't all that great, that can't be said about Terence Stamp. No matter what movie he was in, he always gave it his everything. Wether it was an old drama where he played the main protagonist, a superhero movie where he played the villain, a movie where he just had a few lines or even one where he had to show his bare ass he never phoned it in. He played single-line roles as good as roles where all the focus was on him, no matter if he had 2 minutes of screentime in a movie or 2 hours. We've truly lost a fantastic actor that you might've seen in more movies than you realize. RIP Terence Stamp

The Life of Chuck (2024)

American fantasy drama film. It's about an ordinary man’s life, exploring joy, loss, and the impact of his existence. This is really good. Absolutely go in blind, don't even finish reading this review. Great cast (Tom Hiddleston, Mia Sara, Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, Jacob Tremblay, Matthew Lillard, Nick Offerman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, David Dastmalchian, Carl Lumbly, Harvey Guillén, Hamish Linklater and more). All I can say this is well worth the watch, even if it might be a bit confusing at first. Highly recommended.

A Soldier's Story (1984)

American mystery drama film. It's about an African-American officer who investigates a murder in a racially charged situation in World War II. Very good cast (Adolph Caesar, Denzel Washington, Howard Rollins, David Alan Grier, Art Evans, David Harris, Robert Townsend, Patti LaBelle and more). Overall this was a very interesting movie and of course it's not every day that you see a WWII whodunnit. Can recommend.

Bring Her Back (2025)

Australian mystery body horror film. It's about two step-siblings who find themselves orphaned and placed in the middle of an occult ritual by their new foster mother. Watched this at the cinema yesterday. Well, it's best if you go into this completely blind. I knew nothing about this movie going in and I feel like that's how it should be experienced. Even reading this review might already be too much. But yeah, it's probably the most fucked up and disturbing horror movie of the year, so much so that even some casual horror fans might think it's too much and I definitely can't recommend it if you don't even normally watch any horror. This was really harrowing and emotionally devastating (on top of the fact that it had some of the most twisted gore I've seen in a while) so this definitely isn't a fun horror movie to watch. Overall I can recommend it (because it's very effective and really good for what it was) but of course not to everyone.

The Marvels (2023)

American superhero film. It's about three superheroes getting their powers entangled with each other, forcing them to work together to save the universe. This has some good ideas (and it's nice to see a female-led superhero movie like this where they don't need the help of some overused male superhero like Iron Man) but overall the movie has a lot of flaws and I can see why people don't like it. Can't recommend.

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002)

American biographical spy film. It's about a game show host who leads a double life as a CIA assassin. This is actually based on the autobiography of American game show creator, producer, host, author, and songwriter Chuck Barris (who created widely adapted shows like The Dating Game, The Newlywed Game or The Gong Show) but the kicker is that there's some questionable stuff in his autobiography (like the claim that he worked as an assassin for the CIA) and this movie is all about that, depicts his alleged second career in an over-the-top, absurdist manner. All that makes the movie really quirky and with a great cast consisting of people like Sam Rockwell, George Clooney (who also directed this), Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, Rutger Hauer, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Michael Cera, Maggie Gyllenhaal and more it also makes it really interesting. So if you're in for something rather unusual with a great cast I can very much recommend this.
