I tried to stick to films released before I was born. Probably a few more I could add, but they fell out of favor for me over the years.
Tod Browning's Freaks (1932)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951)
Titanic (1953)
The Miracle on 34th Street (1955)
The Ten Commandments (1956)
Alien (1979)
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
The Secret of NIMH (1982)
The Last Unicorn (1982)

First up they are classic movies not old!
The best movie is all about the ambience In my opinion. My favorite movie going experiences include watching the Godfather with a group of my friends over an Italian meal. I mad spaghetti and meatballs everyone else brought something to share, heck someone even brought some cannoli!
Another time was at an old farmhouse, they tied a sheet to the wall of the barn set up a protector and played hammer horror films the week around Halloween to a group of people sitting on their own lawn chairs or laying on a blanket,
And nothing is as unique as going to a midnight showing of Rocky Horror in a collage town

Those are all great ways to watch those movies, even if I haven't seen the movies in question.

Arsenic & Old Lace still holds up. Cary Grant was in top form and the whole ensemble was just delightful.
another one that is fun is Murder By Death. i make it a point to rewatch that one every few months as a sort of comforting few hours.

Big Trouble in Little China
First time I saw it in the end of the 80s (I was around 10 yo) I was extremely impressed. That lightning guy, wooooow. I dont think I understood what the actors were saying mostly, but still....
I still watch it from time to time. I'm still loving it.

The oldest movie I enjoyed is probably The Cremator.

All time favourite would be Aliens, I used to come home from school and throw the video tape straight in and watch it every afternoon. I used to keep record of how many times I watched it and it was well over 100 when I finally stopped, at that stage I'd pretty much learnt all the lines, my school work though wasn't so hot, they never tested me on Aliens content!
Predator was another I loved at the time, along with The Thing and Mad Max 2.
Then there was the movies my parents loved and I used to watch with them (and loved) too, so many excellent classics I can't even remember. Smokey and the Bandit, Duel, Convoy (my dad drove a truck for a petrol company and loved the truck movies). Then they also loved Cannonball Run and The Gods Must Be Crazy. Awesome movies, thanks for the reminder I might go watch some of them again!

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many to even list here.
Most of the movie I watch are from before 2000. You really can't compare the amount of great movies made in the last 20 years to the ones made in the 110+ years before. And definitely don't forget about the 50+ years before the 40s. :D

I also like Stand By Me, it's a great movie, should watch again.
2 of my 3 favourite movies are (the 3rd one is K-PAX, but it came out in 2001 :) )
Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
But many that have been mentioned are also great.

After rewatching some old movies this weekend I would like to ask: What is your favorite old movie? (1940's-2000) lets say.
One of my favorite movies growing up and that I rewatched was Stand By Me, with River Phoenix when he was a child. That movie is so real and brings out your emotions and keeps you gripped with happiness and sadness, and its just a roller coaster, but really holds a meaning to it. Another one of my favorites is The Naked Gun, a comedic detective spy movie that's always held a place in my heart. So the question stands, what is YOUR favorite old movie?
