But I can't decide from where... Amazon used ones don't look refurbished at all and are usually missing things on the cheaper end. eBay has the same problem but tend to be more expensive in exchange for the added accountability and more information. Gamestop is more expensive than either but at least I know what I'm getting there. Any suggestions or other places to look? Oh, and I'm in the USA if that matters.

Also, games. I'm thinking of starting with Animal Crossing, Pilot Wings, and something else, but I can't decide on a third game. Rune Factory or Harvest Moon maybe? Monster Hunter is coming, but I don't want to spend the extra money on the joystick addon right off the bat.

Giveaway here!

Edit: So, Nintendo apparently sells refurbished ones directly, and for cheaper than any other place, so it looks like I'm buying from them. Still need game suggestions, though! And for the record, I'm obviously getting Etrian Odyssey 4 and Pokemon X/Y when they come out, so you don't need to suggest those.

Didn't even know Nintendo sold refurbished ones directly :P I'd gladly get a color I'm only kind of fond of in exchange forone that comes with everything right from Nintendo.

Why isn't there an european Nintendo store? Oh wait, there is one, where they sell chargers and SDs only.

The Circle Pad Pro really is a waste of money, I never use it. New leaf is fun, I'm still playing it a bit daily, though not as much as in the beginning. Also you're missing the best place for refurbished, directly from Nintendo.

Do you play Monster Hunter? You kinda need 2 joysticks for it. That's essentially the only game I'm expecting to use it with, and on my PSP I have enough hours in Monster Hunter that if that was the only game I played on it, I'd still break a dollar an hour of playtime for the entire PSP.

And that's exactly why I asked here. I never would have thought to check Nintendo directly. I had no idea they sold refurbished consoles themselves.

Well it depends on how much you relly on the second Joystick, i have MH3U on my 3DS and i've never needed one, the lock-on feature helps a lot (i'm G-Rank 82 with end game weapon and armor and more than 250 hours in game), i also have it on my Wii U but after spending so many hours on my 3DS i barely use the second joystick on the WiiU, the Monster Hunter on the PSP really needs another joystick sometimes it's a pain without the lock-on

Consider Kid Icarus: Uprising or Fire Emblem: Awakening.

I only ever played the Gamecube Fire Emblem game. Is there a storyline I'm missing if I jumped straight to that one?

Awakening has references to other games in the series, but you don't need to have played any of them to get full enjoyment of the game. I recommend getting it.

"Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies" or "Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward" are games you should consider in my opinion.

I never got into the Phoenix Wright games, and I'm the kind of guy that needs to play a series from the beginning...

Get 999 then get virtue's last reward, both well worth the price (999 is 20 new at the most, virtue's is 25 on the nintendo download store.

Unless you are getting PilotWings Resort for a cheap bargain, it doesn't warrant a purchase at full price due to it being a short game. A game you should consider in buying is BIT.TRIP SAGA (currently $14.99 on the Nintendo eShop, ~$10 on Amazon), and Super Mario 3D Land (regular price $34.99.)

Pilotwings is only 7 bucks on Amazon, and I loved the N64 one, so I figured it was worth it there.

He means Futurama's Fry, as that's the only character in the world with that name. It isn't a real name either.

I might get a 3DS at some point solely to play Monster Hunter. I really like the whole idea in games of hunting big monsters with specific mechanics... and MH has a lot of that. :D

Tales of the Abyss is something I have heard things about and if it doesn't need to be a 3DS game a normal DS game then dragon quest 4 5 and 6!!

If I had to buy a 3DS, it'd be solely for the remake of Starfox 64. I played this game tons on N64, and it has no equivalent. I suggest you check it out.

Starfox is a blast if you've never played it, alas they didn't really add anything at all to the 3ds version. I think they removed being able to play on foot in vs.

You don't need the joystick addon for Monster Hunter IMO. You can easily move the camera with d-pad and if you have trouble with the camera you can auto-lock feature which points directly to the monster when you press L-button. Though extra joystick would be useful for underwater combat, but if you're thinking of getting MH4, it doesn't have underwater combat anymore, as far as I know

Blasphemy! I have tried using autolock a few times, but it just doesn't feel right for MH. But I guess it's good for some people

I'll recommend you...

Project X Zone (it's awesome, sometimes it feels too repetitive but you'll never get tired to see those animations, and if you like the crossovers then you're good to go)
Kid Icarus Uprising (it's a must have)
Metal Gear Solid 3D (if you've never played this then you should give it a chance)
Super Street Fighter IV 3D (Another must have)
Kingdom Hearts 3D (Nice 3D effects)

e-Shop
Pushmo
Crashmo
VektorScape
Tetris Axis
Bit.Trip.Saga
Nano Assault Ex
Harmo Knight
Mighty Switch Force 1/2

There's a lot of good recommendations, appart from the obvious First party

I always felt Gamestop's warranty was worth the extra price. In all 3 Gamestops I've bought from, it's pretty much no questions asked (like, I bricked two different PSPs installing custom firmware, both of which were returned with no problems). I'd check Nintendo's warranty on their refurbished 3DS before making a decision.

nintendo sells refurbished ones for MORE than you would buy NEW in a store. If you really want a 3DS, wait for a sale. If youre Planning on Getting PKMN X/Y consider holding of, there may be bundles nearer to release.

Comment has been collapsed.

Wow, it's pretty shocking how wrong you are on that first point...

Nintendo store: 120 refurbished, comes with everything, 1 year warranty
Amason: 123, only comes with charger or 145 for one with everything, no warranty on either
Bestbuy: 150 new
Gamestop: 160 used
eBay: cheapest buy it now: 125, no warranty
It's kind of a no brainer to go with Nintendo

And for the second one, I did look at those. Gamestop is already advertising bundles at 200, but the game itself is only 40, and I'd rather just save the 40 bucks by getting a used system from Nintendo and buying the game after.

I was thinking of the XL.

Good luck with the refurb. They always have some hidden problem...

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

What no.
The XL is cheaper refurbished on the Nintendo Store than it is brand new.

Plus even if there was a problem (which they do their best to make it problem free and I've yet to see someone complain about a defected product), you get free warranty.
