Hi SG, we just rolled out an update to the way blacklists work, and I wanted to create a quick announcement to explain the difference. Previously, if you blacklisted a user, they would not be able to enter your giveaways, or see them on the homepage. Now, there is one addition: If you blacklist a user, you will also not be able to enter their giveaways, or see them on the homepage.

There are two reasons for the change...

  1. It's more fair to giveaway creators, and it prevents users from quietly blacklisting a giveaway creator, while continuing to enter their giveaways.
  2. It will encourage users to put more thought into their reason for blacklisting another user, and it should discourage blacklisting over minor grievances.

This might leave you wondering, is there anything preventing you from unblacklisting a user, entering their giveaways, and then blacklisting them again? Yes. When unblacklisting a user, there is a delay between one second and one day week until you once again see their giveaways on the homepage, and have access to entering them. If you try to directly open their giveaways sooner, you will see an error, such as "You do not have permission to view this giveaway for another 35 minutes, since you previously blacklisted the giveaway creator.". The length of the delay is proportional to the amount of time you had the user blacklisted (i.e. if you blacklisted a user for 5 hours, you'll need to wait 5 hours after unblacklisting the user), up to the maximum of one day week.

Same. Still have 5 on 6. At start i was a bit disturbed about this, i wondered what bad i did for people to silently blacklist, and then when i got last 2 after creating some public GA, i understood it's just not possible to please everyone if some people even blacklist you for creating GA. o\
So now... i made a reason and live it a little better. XD

I think the person had the habit of BL-ing anyone that wins their giveaway to give higher chance to others. This type of behavior is now punished by this change.

Yeah, 8 people unblackisted me as well :P

Edit: 9 now, lol.

It could be that you had them blacklisted, and now they don't need to BL you to keep you from entering their GAs.

The user I'm thinking of blacklisted me first and now after removing it (At least I think so) I also removed the BL. I have like 2 people on my blacklist (should clear them as well as a lot of time has passed).

LOL, well with only 2 users on your list, I guess it probably wasn't what I was referring to.

Max cooldown time could be a month or a year <3 a minimum of a week disregarding time of another purrson being blacklisted would be good too, ignoring blacklists less than 1 minute as a misclicks.
Thanks for great update in any case! This is very natural and fair mechanics, especially considering there was no proper way to know do these people enter giveaways or not.

Auto-leaving giveaways of person who you are blacklisting should be added too, but not the other way around (not kicking person from ga they have enteted). This would be fair, too

I like the update, but...
...now I would like to know who blacklisted me. Two users already unblacklisted me to gain access to more GA, I guess. And why should I give games to people who might not even like me?

I can totally understand that. Now if Site Admin could make notifications for that behavior... xD

You're right, those 67 users are not able to join your giveaways until you are removed from their blacklists.

This is good, now I don't have to check every giveaway creator and see if they were blacklisted by me before entering a giveaway.

This might leave you wondering, is there anything preventing you from unblacklisting a user, entering their giveaways, and then blacklisting them again?

Instead of the timeout, you could also make the giveaway entrant automatically leave their giveaways made by anyone who they blacklist.

Thats good just one thing
I wolud like that blacklist / whitelist would not be anonimous for the user. I explain:
Whenever you blacklist, whitelist; a list of reasons would appear why you are bl / wl, you choose one and viola. (Prevent missclick too)
Then if the blacklisted user search for the list of who had blacklisted will serve as feedback, to avoid repeating the same behaviour that is causing him / her being blacklisted, and with the user that blacklisted him/her. (Not for revenge, but for contact the other person if seeing they can solve the misunderstanding, many times is just a misunderstanding and you dont have chance for a reply because you dont know who blacklisted you). [And there are scripts that help you in who have bl/ wl, so its important for the comunity to know]

So with a list of who had blacklisted you, will give you a chance for reply or apologies. Will prevent more blacklisting (even with the new implementation that is great and fair). And your list of blacklist will be more serious.

That's some great changes. It will likely hopefully reduce all the drama about blacklisting... Thank you cg for all the great updates :D

EDIT: That's funny, yesterday I was on 23 person's blacklist and now it's 21, I guess 2 people couldn't bear not to enter my GAs ;)

I think this is a great idea! I've gotten removed from 1 blacklist so far, not that there are many to begin with :)
It got me to go through my blacklists and remove a lot of permabans. And I forgot why I blacklisted a bunch of people, so they all get second chances, which is great :)

I just played around with it a little and it seems like blacklisting someone won't remove you from their whitelist.
Their giveaways were gone for me while on blacklist, but after removing them I was still on their whitelist.

Personally I think it would be cool if you could do that to remove yourself from someone else's whitelist.
That and the ability to grant someone who blacklisted you access to your giveaways via wl would be great.

Finaly! :D I've been waiting (and suggesting) that for some time, thanks! Already 5 people removed me from their blacklist ;p

never liked the idea of someone blacklisting me and still being able to enter my GAs while hiding anonymously, now when they want to say "screw you" they also get it in return. im happy about it. i always thought it was lower level users as i never encountered any GAs i couldnt enter but if they were hidden to me as the topic suggest that might explain why, lol. i guess some people just dont like my opinions, well now they gotta pay for that closed minded ignorance

GO F U BOOMERANG GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! ^,..,^
