Yes, small sample size and all, but I still found the results interesting.

  • 21% of voters use an automated backup solution (way more than I expected)
  • 53% store all their files on a single computer
  • Most people on this site (55%) don't know what SMART is. I do, and it didn't help me in any way when two of my hard drives recently died without any warning.
  • The preferred method for most people (57%) to open many links in a list, is to open them in new tabs, by pressing the mouse wheel.
  • Only 9% have an issue with white chocolate being called chocolate
  • 39% don't drink beer at all. I guess it has something to do with the age demographics of this site. Among those who do drink beer, 88% care about taste / aroma, with half of them finding the buzz important, but only 12% drink beer mostly for the buzz.
  • Only 3% of people get drunk from one drink, and almost third feel some kind of buzz (surprised again)
  • Medium-rare is the most popular way (27%) for people to have their steaks. The second most popular is Well-done at 24%. Personally, I won't touch either, and I'm not a vegeterian. Just not too fond of what I perceive (wrongly, I know) as blood and coal.
  • More people either both watch & practice sports (38%), or don't do either (27%)
  • Iceland (0.3M) kicking out England from EURO 2016 (round of 16) is the biggest sport upset from a small population country, at least according to 58% of voters
  • 17% of users here are Male and weigh 71-80 kg / 155-176 lb. 6% are Female and weigh 51-60 kg / 111-132 lb. Both are the largest group for each gender, with other users falling into less populated groups.
  • For 79% of people, their native language direction of writing is Left-to-Right. For only 5% (including me) it's Right-to-Left. Not a big surprise of course.
  • 88% of people don't fucking care when they see profanity
  • Boredom is still a thing. Most people (68%) experienced it today.
  • 58% like round numbers more than other numbers. The poll is still active, so the exact number may change...

There are 14 threads and 14 GAs linked above, and they're not hard to find. All are Level 0 with no restrictions other than no rule breakers allowed.

This one has no poll, but I'm planning a similar post for tomorrow about my more On-Topic polls, and I may add one there. I need to check with Dan Quayle if he's available first. Update: Part II is up.

Enjoy! :-)

I like steak too, but apparently not the way most people here do. I'm among the 11% who voted Medium-well (aka pink inside).

happy medium-well cake day! (im with you, medium-well is my choice of blood)

also because i didnt want to bump an old thread
i dont like white chocolate being called chocolate :< i love white chocolate so much more, much more delicious to me, so i am bothered if white chocolate is called "chocolate" because they are distinctly different to me

hmm what else... OH SHIT (hah) i can open new tabs using my middle mouse button, god damn im a computer nub
thanks for the tip you saved me a whole click per link when it comes to opening new tabs
i was using ye olde rightclick>new tab method

It never occurred to me that among those who object to calling white chocolate "chocolate" there may actually be people who like it. Usually those who object to the name also have a need to lecture why everything about it is wrong. Personally, I love it and have no issue with the name.

If you find the pressing the wheel sometimes ends with unintentional scrolling (I do), try ctrl+click instead. That's my preferred method.

Comment has been collapsed.

Weird, I never get unintended scrolling with the middle-mouse click. Maybe it's something to do with the mouse I have.
And I find Ctrl+click a bit cumbersome to use as I have to move my other hand to the keyboard, when most of the time I have it resting elsewhere.

Still, if it works for you then I won't judge you for it. :P

I assume "no" means disagree with the most popular opinion, and "yes" means agree? Because most of these polls don't have a yes/no answer...

I guess most people don't use ctrl method because their other hand is busy.

I studied statistics for two semesters and wasn't particular good at it, but it is a useful discipline. I certainly find more day to day use for it than linear algebra.

I had to read a few times, and am still a bit confused. Are you saying that sharing your opinions with others doesn't make you feel like less of an outcast? I don't think I agree, but I also don't feel like an outcast to begin with, so probably not an authority on the subject.

The reason is that you entered the ungiftable keys List 1 (Iteration #4) without adding a comment about which key/s you took (or which keys you tried to activate and were already used). See more details in the relevant ungiftable keys thread (specifically the parts in bold).

You can't do that when working with machinery - even hand held powertools are damn too noisy to work without hearing protection
Not that I'm bored then, hobby never is, but 8h/day job could )

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't listen to music/podcasts when I handling powertools. I also don't get bored when I do, because it doesn't happen very frequently, doesn't normally take too long and requires my full attention. I'm actually glad my day job doesn't involve handling powertools or working with machinery for 8h/day...
